The Effect of using Technology on the Child's Relationship with his Parents
Abstract
The study aimed to determine the effect of the use of technology on the child’s relationship with his parents. The study relied on the descriptive, analytical approach, and the questionnaire was designed and distributed to parents in Riyadh (n=300).
The study concluded the most effect of technology on the child’s relationship with his parents (it reduces understanding between the child and parents) is 2.28±0.79. The tablet (iPad) (36%) and smartphone (24.3%) achieved the highest percentages of devices owned. 58.3% of children spent all day's week using electronic devices, and 44.3% more than three hours using electronic devices. Innovative applications are among the most factors that attract children in the early stage to use technology 2.75±0.48. The most effect of technology is (back and neck) 2.76±0.51. A statistically significant effect of used technology on some aspects of the child and relationship with his parents, with a medium and weak effect size, respectively. The study recommended the need to increase awareness among parents about the dangers of technology use by children and to increase oversight on the contents of social media programs and means, especially those that contain behaviors that are contrary to the values and morals of Saudi society.
