Social Problems of Patients with Lung Cancer

(A field study in Baghdad city)

Abstract

The social problems of patients with lung cancer are important topics that serve this category of patients, and that these problems are a situation that requires corrective treatment, and this is done by standing on the conditions of society and the social environment. Problems accompany industrial progress, and the feeling increases in the sick person and his family when comparing their lives before infection with normal patients and their lives and circumstances after infection with the disease. Then the social problem appears, which is the difficulties in poor social adaptation that reduces its effectiveness and social sufficiency and limits its ability to build successful social relationships with others. Therefore, our study aimed to identify these problems and identify their causes by collecting and analyzing data. Among the most prominent results we reached is that males are more susceptible to this disease, and that this disease is spreading at an increase in the age group (61-70) years, and that most of those infected are residents of Baghdad Governorate, and that one of its most important symptoms is coughing up blood, and that most patients suffer from difficulty adapting to the social environment, and that their motor disability is reflected in their social relationships and economic status. The social specialist also has a role in planting hope and optimism in the patient's recovery. The researcher made recommendations through her study, the most prominent of which is spreading health and cultural awareness among members of society to stay away from smoking, drinking alcohol and drugs through the media and advertising by making posters and advertisements, as well as establishing social research centers to follow up on the patient and his family and solve social problems, and establishing and opening centers in the governorates to practice palliative care for patients to help them in the success and speed of treatment to reach a speedy recovery and solve social problems, noting that the sample size is (50) male and female researchers from those present and visiting the research centers and hospitals designated for this disease.
