Abstract

Environmental conservation and the reduction of harmful emissions have become increasingly important topics in recent years, particularly in light of the accelerating pace of climate change. This study aims to explore the current state of green human resource management (GHRM) practices in profit-oriented organizations operating in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, as reflected in the published literature. The study employs a literature review methodology alongside a descriptive-analytical approach to answer the research questions. A set of criteria was established for selecting studies included in this research to ensure the highest level of credibility in the results. The study reached several conclusions, among which is the scarcity of published studies in peer-reviewed journals on the topic of GHRM in profit-oriented companies and institutions in the Arab Gulf countries. Additionally, most of the studies on this topic are published in English. The study found that 2021 marked the publication of the first studies related to GHRM in profit-oriented organizations in the GCC. Furthermore, the results revealed that all studies on GHRM in profit-oriented organizations in the GCC were quantitative, with most following a descriptive-analytical methodology, and all agreed on using questionnaires as the sole data collection tool. Overall, the studies concluded that there is a level of GHRM practice in the profit-oriented organizations in the countries under study, and that GHRM has had positive effects on various variables, including green organizational culture, green productivity, and green innovation.
