Abstract

This topic deals with an analysis of the phenomenon of maternal mortality in the Arab world during the period from 1990 to 2023, focusing on the main causes of these deaths, and the social, economic and health factors that contribute to their exacerbation. The topic aims to shed light on the challenges facing Arab countries in improving maternal health, and assessing the progress made towards achieving the sustainable development goals related to reducing maternal mortality rates. The descriptive approach and analytical method were used to suit the nature of the research, and the data were for the period from 1990 to 2023. The research was divided into three chapters (the first: includes the general framework of the study, including an introduction, importance, objectives and problem of the study), while the second chapter includes the theoretical framework of the research and was divided into three sub-headings (the concept of maternal mortality, secondly the causes leading to maternal mortality, and thirdly the results of maternal mortality), while the third and final chapter included mention of the practical analysis of the research. The most important conclusions were as follows:

  1. 1. The highest rates were in 1990 and began to decrease until 2023, which indicates awareness of the importance of preserving mothers' lives, spreading the culture of protecting mothers, and taking serious measures to reduce this rate from one year to another.
  2. 2. Morocco ranked first in rates, due to its lack of capabilities since ancient times to preserve mothers' lives, but according to the results, there was awareness and spreading the culture of preserving mothers' lives.
  3. 3. The sound procedures that these countries (Saudi Arabia and Lebanon) considered an approach from the beginning and are continuing with, but some obstacles and problems in Lebanon and conflicts led to a slight increase in the last three years.
