Difficulties of teaching Americas from the point of view of female students in the geography department at the College of Education for Women at the University of Baghdad

Abstract

This article aims to investigate the difficulties of the Americas subject from the view of female students in the Geography Department in the Women College Education in Baghdad University. The research sample consisted of 230 female students in the third stage. To achieve the goal of the research, the researcher chose the questionnaire as a tool for the current study as the most appropriate tool in the process of collecting final data. Using the questionnaire is the most common among educational and psychological research. After reviewing some previous educational studies related to the current research to utilize in preparing the tool of the research, the researcher chose a random survey sample of (30) students who constituted (0.13) of the original community and asked them an open question in order to identify their opinions and obtain the largest number of teaching difficulties from their point of view. After collecting data on students' responses, the difficulties were classified into five main fields:(the scientific material – the female students – the teachers of the subject – the teaching methods and methods of teaching - evaluation methods) by (6) paragraphs for each field. The veracity of each paragraph was calculated by presenting them to a group of arbitrators and specialists in educational, psychological and geographical sciences to determine its validity. The stability of the tool was obtained by means of the re-application method of the test on an exploratory sample of 25 female students were randomly selected which constituted a percentage of 0.12 of the remaining 200 female students of the community. The Pearson correlation coefficient has been adopted to calculate the stability coefficient, and to know the difficulties of teaching the Americas from the point of view of female students. The research tool was applied to the research sample of (50) randomly selected students. and using the descriptive analytical method, data were collected statistical analyses using the following means (Fisher's equation to calculate the weighted mean and percentage weight to determine the percentage weight of the paragraphs of the tool domains). The difficulties of the field of scientific material (first), the difficulties of the field of teaching methods and style methods (second), the difficulties of the field of teaching the subject (third), the difficulties of the field of evaluation methods (fourth) and the difficulties of the field of female students (fifth). The weighted mean values of the domain tools ranged between (2.04) and (1.74), and their percentage weights between (68.08) and (58.08) respectively.
