Carpet-weaving of the Prophet's Holy Mosque: An Identity and Islamic Cultural Heritage

Abstract

    One of the great colours of aesthetic expression types is the beauty of prayers and their organized spiritual, material and organizational, as well as noble religious, and cultural values, particularly when these prayers are held in the Holy Prophet's Mosque, which has a great status in the hearts of all Muslims. In the Prophet's Mosque, the concept of beauty rises and expands to include the mind and behaviour linked to thought, virtue and wisdom. The Prophet's Mosque has witnessed great architectural expansions that include new additions, and completion works to the Mosque's area. The Mosque's carpet was a basic part of these additions that reflect the great attention and care Saudi Arabia of mosques and holy places.  The research problem is: Is the fabric of the Prophet's Mosque's carpets aesthetic assets and an Islamic cultural heritage as a field of Islamic art with the aim of dealing with fabric of the Prophet's Mosque as part of Islamic art, and appreciating it as an aesthetic element completing the religious architectural beauty that has a global presence, linked to the cultural, and civilizational achievements of Saudi Arabia. The research adopts the descriptive analytical approach by shedding light on the Islamic style features in the models of prayer carpets' fabric of prominent civilizations, stressing the idea of the uniqueness of the beauty of the carpets of the Holy Prophet's Mosque in its contemporary Islamic style completing the religious architectural beauty in Saudi Arabia, with elaborating the relationship between beauty and greatness through an analytical descriptive study of the carpet in scientific, technical and technological aspects of the Mosque's Carpet.  Among the most significant results are: 1-The Carpet of the Prophet's Mosque consolidates the Islamic cultural identity and reflects functional and aesthetic values as an original, national product that is in harmony with the age requirements.2-The carpet is characterized with uniqueness and peculiarity governed by common emotional origins among People in appreciating the aesthetic value. The research recommends the significance of documenting the Islamic heritage through conducting studies and scientific research, and that safeguarding these values requires multi-party efforts that include governments, societies and individuals, and that cooperation and cultural exchange consolidate the Islamic identity internationally as a world, civilizational and cultural heritage.
