Abstract

This study explores the effect of integrating virtual reality (VR) technology into university-level courses on students’ academic achievement and motivation at the University of Jeddah. Utilizing a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, the study involved a randomly selected sample of 34 male undergraduate students. To assess the impact of the intervention, an achievement test in the topic of health awareness, along with a motivation scale were developed and validated prior to implementation. The findings revealed statistically significant gains in students’ academic performance following the VR-based instructional intervention, as evidenced by higher posttest scores compared to pretest results. These outcomes suggest that the immersive and interactive nature of VR can contribute meaningfully to enhancing conceptual understanding. Additionally, the results indicated a high level of learning motivation among students after exposure to the VR learning environment. Therefore, the study recommends the integration of virtual reality technologies into various university courses, given their demonstrated potential to promote deeper engagement, improve learning outcomes, and support learner motivation within higher education contexts.
