The Impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence on Job Performance in light of the Mediating Role of Digital Competence

This study aimed to analyze the impact of generative artificial intelligence on job performance, mediated by digital literacy, among employees in public and private sector organizations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach. The sample consisted of 600 employees: 300 from public sector organizations and 300 from private sector organizations. A questionnaire was used as the primary data collection instrument, and the data was then statistically analyzed using SPSS version 30 and appropriate statistical methods for the study variables. The results showed a significant positive impact of generative AI on job performance, demonstrating that generative AI directly contributes to improved job performance. The results also underscore the importance of digital literacy as a crucial factor in enhancing employees' ability to leverage modern technologies. A positive correlation was found between generative AI and digital literacy, indicating that the use of generative AI enhances employees' digital literacy. Furthermore, the results indicated that the mediating role of digital literacy reflects the importance of integrating technology and human skills to achieve optimal performance levels. A strong correlation was found, with job performance efficiency increasing as digital literacy levels rise. Digital literacy plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between generative AI and job performance. In other words, generative AI affects job performance both directly and indirectly through digital literacy. The t-test results showed statistically significant differences between the public and private sectors, favoring one sector in the use of generative AI, level of digital literacy, and level of job performance. ANOVA results also revealed differences based on years of experience and educational qualifications.
